Smashing 2021 Goals and Looking Ahead

A lot happened in 2021 including discovering new authors, experiencing burn out, and celebrating my first year of blogging. I read so many good books last year, I opted for two “Best of” posts so I could list more books. Today is about reviewing last year’s goals and setting new ones.

This year’s goals are not as ambitious. I am a little worried that with work back to its regularly scheduled program, I won’t have many opportunities to read or post as I would like. I want to ensure I continue to do both. While last year’s goals allowed me to indulge in reading and blogging, this year is more about balance.

READING GOALS

Year: 2021

Goal: 125 Books
Read: 241 (Including rereads)

Since I read so many books in 2020, I thought I would be able to read 125 books in 2021.  I was able to exceed that number by nearly double.  I spent time rereading new and old favorites. They were comfort reads when I didn’t much like picking up something new. Rereads were especially helpful when I hit a slump around the beginning of the year and then again toward of the end of the year.

2022 READING GOALS

  • Read at least 36 BOOKS
I won’t be able to read as much and averaging 3 books a month also means I feel less pressure.
  • Read at least 5 PHYSICAL BOOKS off my shelf
There are too many books I haven’t read but I keep buying more. Doing this will at least justify me buying more. (Ha…)
  • Reach 80% FEEDBACK RATIO on NetGalley at least once
This has been evasive the last year but I’m determined to request less and complete as much of my backlog as possible.

I’ve been setting quarterly goals to help with accomplishing my yearly goals. This quarter (January – March), I will read Andrea Tang’s Renegade Flight and Natalie Mae’s The Cruelest Mercy. Both are physical books.

BLOGGING GOALS

Year: 2021

Goal: 51 posts
Posted: 290 posts

Goal: Celebrate One Year
Blogiversary Post

I hit my blogging goals this year and was very excited when it happened! I posted more consistently and participating in memes helped immensely. I learned a few valuable lessons, including to give myself permission to not blog. Also, if burn out is on the horizon, I should ride it out. It’s probably my mind and body telling me I need a break.

2022 BLOGGING GOALS

  • Post at least 4 TIMES A MONTH (48 posts total for the year)
With less time to post, this is a good number to ensure the blog stays active. Also, I won’t try to avoid work by posting instead. (heh…)
  • Post at least 3 DISCUSSION POSTS
I have a few discussion posts I’ve been wanting to post but I keep putting it off. This is the year to finally put them on the blog.

How did 2021 go for you? What are your goals for 2022? Is there anything you’re doing to ensure you reach your goals this year? I’d love to know!

  1. You read nearly 250 books last year?! I’m impressed. I narrowly missed 100 and I’ve never gotten even close to 200. Congrats!

    1. Thanks! I’m a slow reader, but I was working from home so I often had unplanned book marathons. I developed undereye circles for the love of books. 🀣 I’m back to work so no more binging. I tried and I could barely make it through the rest of the day.

Ack for the narrow miss! Those are the worst when you’re so close you can practically feel it and then the clock strikes midnight.

  2. Wow, congratulations on exceeding your reading goal from last year! I want to get to the 80% feedback ratio on NetGalley this year also. I got there a few times last year, but it only lasts a week or two for me!

    1. I’m jealous that you reached 80%! It’s been elusive for a while for me. We can do it. I will touch 80 at least once and you will make it longer than a week or two! 😁

  4. The way I had to blink to absorb the fact that you read nearly 250 books in just one year. That’s amazing. Congrats on that, as well as your other goals! 😊

Hope your 2022 is filled with good reads and better memories! πŸ’›
