**I received a copy of the book through NetGalley. I voluntarily read and reviewed it. All opinions are my own.**
Rom Com Agenda is a rom-com for rom-com lovers. Eli undergoes multiple rom-com tropes to become a romance hero for his presumed true love, who has already broken up with him and left for another country. So…true love? Maybe he’s the one that does not realize it’s not. Leah is the new friend enlisted by his friends and family to help him.
It’s a slow burn as Eli and Leah begin to fall for each other. Their chemistry builds as they quickly move from acquaintances to friends. The more time they spend together, the harder it becomes for them to deny their attraction. However, Eli is still hung up on his ex. (Ugh!) I needed Eli to move out of his own way, but I wanted to hug Leah for having feelings for someone who was not emotionally available.
It is filled with familiar romcom tropes, but the highlight of the book–other than Elia and Leah’s chemistry–is the romcom movie references that immediately evoked nostalgia. The underrated Some Kind of Wonderful came to mind while I was reading this.
While I loved most of the book, I was hoping for better closure between Eli and Victoria. He still runs to her when she calls yet never completely closes the door. It’s closed, but I needed him to effectively tell her that he was over her and with someone else but he never does. It left me feeling bitter even if it was over between them a while ago. It would have made me feel better about the ending, and I know Leah never says it, but she would have felt better too. (Heh…)
Read The Rom Com Agenda for the rom-com references and the slow burn.
