Happy Lunar New Year! The first day of the Lunar New Year is today, and it’s the year of the tiger.
Sharing traditions is the focus of this gorgeously illustrated book. On the last night before Dandan moves away, she and her best friend Yueyue spend time doing what they love best, cutting out snowflakes and freezing them to be hung as ornaments during the Lunar New Year. In a new place, Dandan is lonely and no longer has someone to share the tradition with until a new friend comes along.
The book provides a child’s perspective of what it means to move away and leave friends behind. The loneliness can be overwhelming in a new place, especially when you come from a different culture, but all it really takes is one person to make a difference. The book left me feeling warm and cozy as Dandan finally found the comfort of a new friend and was able to share her traditions. Friends are Friends, Forever is a perfect read for the first day of the new year.
