One liner: Because of Gracie’s resemblance to celebrity Wei Fangli, she is asked to be a stand-in and must spend an inordinate amount of time with Fangli’s handsome partner Sam Yao.

This feels like a drama I’ve watched before. This is the doppelganger story of a normal person temporarily switching lives with a celebrity. It’s a familiar story, and I appreciated the spin Chu puts on it to make it different. It’s more than just a celebrity bored with her life or wanting something more out of life. Gracie is a likeable character, and Sam Yao is infuriating. I couldn’t wait for them to get together! (Heh…) I could have done without the ending though.

One liner: Ariadne comes home to find her roommate’s cousin Choi Jihoon is temporarily staying with them after a breakup and they start falling for each other.

This feels like a fanfic I’ve read before. Ariadne and Jihoon’s first meeting is probably one of my favorite “meet cutes.” (heh…) Ariadne was not the most likeable character, and I was irritated with her and her decisions many times throughout the book. Jihoon, on the other hand, is more likeable. He is a listener and validates her feelings.

One liner: Lavender and Kodiak must confront their feelings for each other after Kodiak moves in with her brothers.

It’s a fast-paced read that is definite more on the angsty side. The book alternates between the present and the past to reveal the events that have led to Lavender and Kodiak’s complicated relationship. Lavender has worked hard to manage her anxiety and moving in with her brothers for college is a positive step forward. Kodiak’s presence makes it difficult, especially because he makes an effort to ensure she knows how much he dislikes her. I was as frustrated as Lavender with Kodiak’s actions and as hurt by them as well. He says such hurtful things to her. I wanted to slap Kodiak in the back of the head a few times. One of the highlights is how much Lavender, Maverick, and River care about each other.
