She sang for India is a beautifully illustrated biographical picture book about M.S. Subbulakshmi, a singer who broke barriers and sang for India’s freedom. History is made accessible as Subbulakshmi tries to overcome rules against girls performing in public. This is an inspirational read that exposes children to a prominent female figure from a different part of the world and to the possibilities that can await them when they overcome obstacles and reach their dreams
Thank you to Macmillan Children’s for a finished copy of the book.
