DESCRIPTiON
An escape across the Atlantic, where she can cover her cousin’s bakery and test out her popular Asian-fusion treats, is the healing distraction Londoner Maddie Liu needs after her failed engagement.
Her bags are only packed for a few weeks, but the family friend who collects her at the airport is an unexpected and irresistible temptation.
Rick Callahan left the Army to take over his dad’s carpentry business and make a home for his sister and her son. He keeps himself busy providing for them, so there isn’t time for romance in his mind. But everything changes when he meets Maddie, and they realize how much they need each other.
Family and friends help Maddie feel at home, but it’s Rick who makes her yearn to stay, even though the career she has built is across an ocean.
When her past shows up in Kentucky, and the date of her return flight creeps closer, Rick and Maddie must decide if their sugar rush is worth the risk.

mini-REVIEW
**I received a copy of the ebook through the author. I voluntarily read and reviewed it. All opinions are my own.**
I’ve enjoyed Jasmine Luck’s short stories, and her novels have also been good reads. In Sugar Rush, Maddie makes trip across the Atlantic to help at her cousin Jess’s bakery and to escape her failed engagement. While there she meets Rick, who quickly becomes more than just the carpenter next door.
The small town vibes are present with everyone’s willingness to help each other out and how well the gossip mill turns. I could also relate to the lack of diverse eateries in town. At one point Maddie practically inhales some shrimp dumplings, and it made me chuckle because I understood the feeling. Maddie’s Asian fusion baked goods also had me googling for recipes. I’m keen on trying some miso brownies. Yum.
While I rooted for Maddie and Rick, the romance was a bit too fast for me and felt a little heavy-handed in the beginning. Under different circumstances, I would have fully been on board with them, but I could not fully overcome how she fell so easily for Rick. When I was able to not let it bother me, I enjoyed their time together. For those who dislike the third act break up, I am happy to announce there is none here.
Sugar Rush may appeal to readers who enjoy baked goods in their small town romances and MMC’s who are southern gentlemen.
